PROS. of this Hotel. Good location . Great sea view. Peasant staff. Do the best they can with the little they have. Good size rooms. CONS. old needs total renovation. Dirty. Breakfast if you like a hot breakfast make it eggs on toast, only. The other so called hot food never hot had burners not lit so always cold food. Bathroom were do I start, Bath had large crack on bottom so flexed when stood in it. Plug chain held on by big rusty nail. Round the Bath sides terrible. Towels not always clean had stains on. Room batteries on entrance had to be changed twice as we couldn't get in. Stayed in Penang Malaysia many times as we lived there for 8yrs. The worst hotel we have stayed in really gone down hill. Do not recommend until total renovation.

Badly in need of investment by the new owners. Furniture in the one bedroom suite worn and bathroom needed maintenance. Virtually no sunbeds anymore and the few thre had broken straps. No beach umbrellas. The website photos are years old. Tennis court closed . Beach bar encroaching the beach area and music intrusive at times. Staff remain helpful and the overall value good but the hotel has lost most of its long term European winter custom and will not revover it without investment. A pity as the situation is good and genrours sized rooms could be a real asset. We have visited several times pre covid and thought we would try it again but we wont be returning unless changes are made.

Stayed here 5 yrs ago and really liked it, so we came back. Sadly, the hotel has gone downhill badly. The pictures on the booking sites are old and do not represent the reality. The rooms are very dated and in need of full refurbishment. The furniture and fittings are worn out and damaged. The linen is old and grey, though it was clean. Hard beds. The dining room furniture is a disgrace. There are no loungers or umberellas on the beach. The beach is not cleaned and covered in rubbish. The pool is cloudy and not at all clean. The gym is grimy and has very old equipment. The tennis court is worn out and looks filthy. The saving grace at Rainbow is the wonderful, friendly, and kind staff, especially the very small lady (didn't get her name) who clears in the dining room and Darvind who checked us in was very helpful. All the staff are lovely. They really try hard in difficult circumstances. The other positives were that although the rooms are tatty, they are very big and reasonably clean. The breakfast here was very nice too. The hotel is definitely not 4 stars, and as I said earlier, nothing like the photographs. I would suggest going elsewhere.

Beach bar is soo loud and the hotel refused to accept responsibility, even though it’s connected to the hotel. Terrible experience, terrible customer service! Don’t come here on the weekend because they don’t care about people staying in the hotel

I had a fairly nice 1 day stay here on April 2023. Check-in/ check-out was fast. Staff working at the reception was alright. I was quite surprised with the room. I stayed in a Deluxe Studio Suite Twin. It was spacious for 2 people and has a mini kitchen area? That was a plus for me. I had a nice view from my room (Thank you reception!) I think this type of room is perfect for families. There's also a Laguna Beach pub where friends and family can order drinks and chill. The staff at the breakfast area were friendly and polite. Beach area was ok, fun to take pictures. Don't worry much about food because you can order food from delivery or walk opposite to the Indian or Lebanese restaurant to takeaway and have it in your room. Downs to the cons. The hotel is definitely looking a bit aged. The furniture and style of the room are slightly vintage. The bathtub was a bit hard to use because it was making a really loud squeaking sound. When I wrongly adjust, brown water start coming out. Wifi was bad. It needs an upgrade because it kept disconnecting. I didn't know how to call reception and ask for more amenities because there was no Parking was confusing and limited. Pls take note, you'll have to validate your tng, debit or credit card at the reception before exiting. The pool seems like it needs maintenance because it was kinda greenish. Breakfast was subpar but I understand because every hotel in Penang is going through it. Served nasi lemak, cereals, fruits, bread, scrambled egg, porridge, coffee and tea. Overall, it still is an affordable hotel. If you're not looking for too much, this hotel is fine for you.
